Bible Study & Worship Aids:
The Voice is the web presence of the Christian Resource Institute, the internet ministry of CRI/Voice, Institute, an independent 501c3 non-profit corporation based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. While representing a particular theological tradition (Wesleyan), the goal of CRI/Voice is ecumenical and global. The Voice offers a wealth of resources for Bible study and liturgical planning. Included is a link to the Voice Bible Study Series, a series of detailed Bible Studies on various books of both Old and New Testaments for small groups, churches, or individual devotional study.
The Text This Week
Planning for a worship by the liturgical calendar? The Text This Week offers a virtual study desk for students, teachers and preachers. Click on a date to find direct links to a wide variety of contemporary and historical resources for study & liturgy for each lectionary week and pericope, or check out the Scripture Index to locate links to study resources relating to specific passages. Artwork indexed by Biblical theme can be found in the Art Concordance. And check out the Movie Concordance for lists of movies indexed by spiritual theme.
“Where interpretation meets imagination” is the subheading for this website from Luther Seminary. They also claim to be “The web’s most helpful, and downright coolest resource for preachers.” Their goal is to inspire better preaching and the website offers a veritable feast of resources as you dig deeper into lectionary texts. Sermon Brainwave is a weekly audio podcast of conversation based on the upcoming Sunday texts.
Building Faith Online Christian Ed Community
Great spot to find Christian Education resources of all kinds. Sign up for the monthly newsletter (Living IN-Formation) to receive helpful seasonal info for planning worship and related activities. Much of the info is geared to Christian Ed resources for children but you will still find valuable resources for adult ministry.
Online Christian Bookshelf
As the name suggests, this site is a (very large!) Christian bookshelf with many sources for personal and group Biblical study. Includes links to many significant writings from early Church history.
Biblical Words Pronunciation Resource
Ever wonder about whether you’ve got those Bible names right when you are asked to read before a gathering? This site pronounces the words for you. (Turn up your speakers!)
Forward Day by Day/Forward Movement
Forward Day by Day is a wonderful little quarterly devotional publication of Forward Movement, an official non-profit agency of the Episcopal church. The print version is a handy way to keep up with the Daily Office readings, along with a short devotional for each day. Daily readings are also available online.
Social Action & Service:
Volunteering, mission work, grants, job hunting, nuts & bolts for nonprofit management–this site has it all! The title claims “100,000 Resources for Serving Urban Communities.” I suspect that there’s probably more than that.
